Phuket’s Marine Police held a press conference on Tuesday (June 24) at 9pm to announce the arrests of the six men.
Those arrested were named as Abdullatev Jehni, 22; Waehamah Tohnahun, 27; Sakariya Duereh, 29; Mahpandee Mahdeeyoh, 25; Pon-anan Choyjit; and Yuranan Wanna, 23.
All were caught trying to pick up large boxes from the post office, containing a total of 19.6kg of kratom leaves.
At the press conference, Marine Police said they were given a heads up when five suspicious boxes arrived in Phuket, all from the same address in Bangkok. Officers showed up at the post office and waited until the six men arrived to collect the boxes. Police searched the boxes, and found illegal kratom inside.
Police charged Abdullatev, Waehamah, Pon-anan and Yuranan with illegal possession of kratom, while Sakariya and Mapandee were charged with possession of kratom with intent to sell.
