Laguna Resorts & Hotels (LHR) has announced that the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, one of Phuket’s longest-established luxury hotels, will close on July 1 for extensive refurbishment and will be relaunched in December 1 under a new name: Angsana Laguna Phuket.
The hotel has been operating under the Sheraton and Luxury Collection brands of Starwood Hotels & Resorts since 1992. With the management conwtract renewal date approaching, an LHR announcement explained,
“The owner and operator mutually agreed to end their operations agreement on June 30, after discussion and re-evaluation of their strategies for the future.”
The change in management to Angsana Hotels & Resorts (AHR) will bring the resort completely back into the Banyan Tree Group fold: both Laguna and Ang-sana are subsidiaries of the Singapore-based Banyan Tree Group.
Angsana, a hotel brand that caters to the modern traveller seeking style and authenticity, said the LHR announcement, adding that “Angsana properties are designed to create and deliver vibrant enlivening experience for guests at work and at play.”
AHR already operates nine resorts and hotels, more than 40 spas, and more than 40 retail galleries.
The change comes as part of an ongoing consolidation of real estate assets by LHR. Last year it sold the Dusit Laguna Resort to Dusit Hotels & Resorts, which is now upgrading the property.
