Under the “Seeds of Love” Christmas Box Initiative of the Seed of Cherngtalay International Church, 170 gift boxes were handed to children aged 1-14 at the Moo Baan Karn Keha government housing estate in Baan Lipon in Thalang on Saturday (Dec 19).
The event was held under the banner “Give Out Park”, and organised in cooperation with the Seeds iServe Phuket group.
A further 70 gift boxes were handed out to children aged 2-15 at a Christmas party on Sunday (Dec 20), put on by the Calvary Chapel at the Tha Chatchai Community Centre at the northern end of the island.
“Children who have so little were overwhelmed by the boxes,” said key organiser Isabelle Castella. “Squeals of delight rippled over the crowd of children as they opened their boxes.
“For the Seeds International Church members who had worked so hard to bring the events together, it was like watching Christmas morning on a grand scale.
“The children’s faces and gratitude brought home the message – it is better to give than to receive.”
The Seeds of Love project was launched with support and participation of families from Gecko School Phuket, British International School and Phuket International Academy, and support from donors as far as Singapore and Canada, Ms Castella explained.
“Next Saturday (Dec 26), we will do our final give-away in Koh Siray, where we anticipate giving away 150 boxes,” she added.
