Russian man's ear sliced off by flying knife in Patong fish market fight

PHUKET: A 36-year-old Russian man is recovering after an incident at a Patong fresh market in which his left ear was sliced off, and right eye slashed by a flying knife following a dispute over B600 with a Thai fish vendor.

The incident reportedly happened yesterday (February 13) at the Marine fresh market in Patong.

Mikhail Ryzov, 36, from Russia told rescue workers that he had bought fish from an unnamed vendor for the price of B400; however, Mikhail said that when he paid the vendor with a B1,000 note, he did not get change back and an argument broke out.

Witnesses say Mikhail then punched the vendor, who responded by throwing a knife at Mikhail, whose left ear was sliced off, and right eye slashed as a result.

Locals assisted the man in suppressing blood loss until rescue workers arrived and patched him up before taking him to Patong Hospital, where his ear and eye were stitched back up.

Police have yet to comment on the case.

i am glad, i left that monkey country with stupidest people in the world. thais are like monkeys grabbing tourists money. stupid people. i will never come back to that shithole....if those monkeys don't have a nice island and weather, they would live on the trees

The Knife throwing was not a good thing. We all agree about that.
However, foreigners have to realize that most of these thai people have not even finished elementary school ( Prathom).
Their thai world vision is very small ( thai bulb thinking), no touch with everything outside Thailand.
( they have free 5 channel thai tv with thai soap things, deeper it not goes in their thinking world).
The...

"Police have yet to comment on the case..." WOW!! That is news! Usually they'll spout off whatever personal opinion they happen to have.

Looks like the Russian man got stitched up twice in the same day !
Rule here is keep calm but be firm and polite because if you upset the natives then some Thai's can loses it,and in a big way.
However most are not looking for trouble just a smile, behave its their country.

Yet another in the litany of reasons why I always carry 500s, 100s, 50s, 20s...1000 baht notes are for tourists who desperately want to get jacked. If you give the exact amount they ask for...there is literally nothing to fight about.

"Too many Russian low-life thugs strutting around Thailand thinking they own the place."

Just as many other foreigners. Or Russians deserve that more than others? Nuts?
I mean, no matter where he's from, he definitely didn't deserve getting his ear cut. I can't judge who started the fight, I wasn't there. But throwing a knife at someone's head is always wrong.

Too many Russian low-life thugs strutting around Thailand thinking they own the place.

You go to foreign country assaulting the locals, don\'t expect them to bend over.

Good on the Thai fish monger who expertly put the Russian in his place.

Richard Vickers | 15 February 2016 - 11:01:32

Yeah... great point Kimple... in which case that damn Russian deserved to have that knife thrown at his face. I mean, we're talking about possibly 1,000 baht! I mean really, could you EVER imagine throwing a sharp knife at another person's face... especially in a crowded market setting..? Utterly insane!

Kimple | 14 February 2016 - 21:47:23

Maybe the vendor didn't get any money? The buyer could be lying about the B1,000 bill...

Richard Vickers | 14 February 2016 - 21:19:22

Man...another example of a Thai man with absolutely no self control...like a mentally ill 10 year old without his psych meds. Over a freeking fish and $30. Unbelievable. Not to say the Russian bloke was the sharpest tool in the shed...but to throw a knife at another man's head...nuts.

The Thai fishmonger did not know that the caviar was in the stomach.... He needs to be educated.... is not?

Webledink | 14 February 2016 - 17:22:27

After all that ...Did he get his change back?

slippery snake | 14 February 2016 - 17:11:14
