Doctor Wiwat Sitamanote said the woman, who was admitted with the name “Patcharapon Hawan”, aged 32, was living in Phuket for a while before deciding to move to Krabi with her husband, where they had two babies.

After she had problems with her husband, she returned to Phuket to stay with her sister but was unable to find her. She then gave birth to her 2.9kg daughter at Thalang Hospital at 10.30am last Thursday.

At 5pm that same day, the woman told another patient she wanted to go wash her clothes, and left the hospital around 6.10pm. The hospital reported the disappearance to the Thalang Police Station after they were unable to find her.

They have already searched the name she gave in the civil registration system of the Ministry of Interior but could not find her.

Thalang hospital director, Dr Anon Kaewbamrung, said this was the second baby who had been abandoned since January – the first one was a baby boy who was abandoned three months ago and now lives in the Phuket Provincial Foster Home.

Police are now trying to locate the whereabouts of the baby girl’s mother. If you have details, contact the hospital staff on 081-396-7874 or 085-888-2534.
