The announcement came at a meeting held by Phuket Vice Governor Suthee Thongyam at Provincial Hall yesterday (August 26), which was also attended by Prajiad Aksornthammakul, Chief of the Phuket Provincial Office; Kathu District Chief, Sayan Chanachaiwong; Mayor of Patong, Chalermluck Kepsap and other officials.
The committee, led by Ms Chalermluck are currently investigating whether the land in question is in fact encroached following a claim by the Land Department that it is public land.
“Today the committee will go through all land documents for an area covering one rai-one gnan. According to the Land Department this area is public land and they have land documents to prove this,” said V/Gov Suthee.
The Phuket Provincial office set up the committee to investigate the matters after officials surveyed the area and found that there are 28 people with claims to the land. So far 17 of them have come forward to the Kathu District Office with land titles.
