Possible land encroachment on Phuketʼs Bangla Rd

PHUKET: A committee which was set up to look into land encroachement on Patongʼs Bangla Rd say it is possible that 28 businesses could be removed if their title deeds are found to be invalid.

The announcement came at a meeting held by Phuket Vice Governor Suthee Thongyam at Provincial Hall yesterday (August 26), which was also attended by Prajiad Aksornthammakul, Chief of the Phuket Provincial Office; Kathu District Chief, Sayan Chanachaiwong; Mayor of Patong, Chalermluck Kepsap and other officials.

The committee, led by Ms Chalermluck are currently investigating whether the land in question is in fact encroached following a claim by the Land Department that it is public land.

“Today the committee will go through all land documents for an area covering one rai-one gnan. According to the Land Department this area is public land and they have land documents to prove this,” said V/Gov Suthee.

The Phuket Provincial office set up the committee to investigate the matters after officials surveyed the area and found that there are 28 people with claims to the land. So far 17 of them have come forward to the Kathu District Office with land titles.

Hmmm...I'm guessing that many of the properties in question are owned (or claim to be owned) by foriegners. That said, this investigation will be carried out quickly so all involved can be properly fleeced before being allowed to get back to business as usual.

All will be nicely fixed with some cash money greasing the right people to continuous business as nothing happened...
Public land should be cleared off of all illegal businesses; then a project beneficial to local people and public at large should come up later on.....
