The ever popular event, held at the lake at Plai Laem Park in Saphan Hin, organised by the Phuket Fishing and Sports Club, witnessed a healthy turnout of participants who were competing for B120,000 of prizes.

There were three separate categories of boats permitted to enter the competition – speed boats, motor boats and long-tail boats, and teams were not allowed to exceed more than five people per boat (excluding captains and children on motor boats).

The fishing gear permitted was standard duck rod and unlimited reel – hand line was not permitted – and the standard rules of the international fishing association were implemented and adhered to during competition, which was open to amateurs and professionals alike.

The game fish permitted included organic fish or wahoo fish, barracuda, monk fish, snakehead fish, rainbow fish, snapper fish, tuna, grouper and all kinds of sea bass except broadmouth fish. Additionally there were three types of special prize fish: Char Grouper, Golden Fish and Amber Jack.

Senior representatives from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) were on hand to oversee the award presentation as part of Sunday’s official closing ceremony.

PPAO President Rewat Areerob assigned his colleague, Thiwat Sidokbuab, who serves as PPAO Deputy President, to distribute awards and prizes to those who has excelled in their respective class during the three-day event.

Also present at the award ceremony were Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, Phuket Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas and a host of selected public sector officials.

The annual event aims to promote marine tourism while stimulating the local economy and all proceeds derived from entry fees are to be donated to the Nakhon Phuket Care Centre, officials confirmed.
