“The president and chief executive officer of Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd, Leonard Francis, and his company and its affiliates are barred from federal contracts and can’t receive benefits from federal assistance programs,” the newspaper reported.

It quoted Navy Secretary Ray Mabus as announcing the suspension. In a concession to practicality, he said that existing contracts can continue “if needed”, but no new contracts may be signed.

The suspension follows Francis’ recent arrest on charges of bribing a Navy officer and a Navy investigator to gain an advantage in bidding for contracts to provide “husbanding” services to US warships visiting ports in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, including Phuket.
