“Our building is still relatively new and we wanted to find a way to decorate the school walls. We have a lot of talented artists in the school and thought it would be great to decorate the school with the children’s own work,” said Head of Primary Nicola Chokkuea.
And so the school held a competition for the children to create their own designs for a canvass of their own; one design was selected from each class, giving children the opportunity to create their very own canvass of their design, with the selected works displayed in a gallery on Monday (June 23) before being hung on the school’s walls.
“We have a great artistic team of teachers who have been great in supporting the children through the project including Miss Nicole Raymond, Mrs Sharron Barratt, Miss Dana Pullen and Mr Greg Saiwipas.
“ We are holding the art exhibition as a way to celebrate the children’s hard work and so that the school community can share in the talents that our children have here at KIS.
“Some of our children may be artists in the making and so giving them the opportunity to have a piece of Art work exhibited may ignite their future as an artist,” she said.
The school is planning to hold the same project every year so as to encourage future artistic talents and to keep the school building beautifully decorated, she added
