Phuket Smart City Innovation Park opens at Saphan Hin

PHUKET: The Phuket Smart City Innovation Park (PSCI) officially opened at Saphan Hin yesterday (Sept 8). The facility is aimed at assisting the general public with digital technology and to also in helping Phuket reach its “Smart City” status.

Ms Jeerawan Boonperm president of the Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA) presided over the the opening ceremony of the PSCI which was established jointly by SIPA, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Phuket Provincial Office and Prince of Songkla University.

In attendance at the opening were Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada, officials, members of the private sector including operators of digital industry businesses and local residents.

Ms Jeerawan explained, “SIPA saw the Phuket Smart City Innovation Park as playing an important role in the Phuket Smart City project, and this centre will be the starting point of developing the Phuket Smart City by promoting digital knowledge.

“It is a place to teach, consult, assist business operators, SME operators, digital operators and residents about digital technology.

“The Phuket Smart City Innovation Park will help create a better society and promote Phuket into a Smart City under the vision of Smile Smart and Sustainable Phuket,” she said.

“Phuket will be developed into a Smart City under the government policy. It is a way to bring our country to be a digital economy society and Thailand 4.0, which is aimed at bringing digital technology to assist or improve the quality of lives for residents and tourists.

“The idea is to help Phuket develop by using digital technology in all aspects including tourism, city development and the economy.

“To improve our environment and society we need to promote the Smart Economy to help SME operators to start up their business by providing them with digital knowledge and investment management, and all of these things they can learn here at the Phuket Smart City Innovation Park,” she added.

During the opening Gov Chamroen took an opportunity to explain the goal of developing the island to become the Phuket Smart City by saying, “The goal for the Phuket Smart City is to create a Green Phuket using innovation, as examples green infrastructure and green transportation systems,” he said.

The Phuket Smart City Innovation Park is located on the first floor of the Software Industry Promotion Agency Phuket office, Prince of Songkla Outreach building at Saphan Hin.
