Phuket rain fails to dampen locals' merit making spirit

Governor Maitree Intusut officially opened the ceremony, which was located on Ratsada Road, opposite Thavorn Hotel, at 11am. He explained that the purpose of the event was to remind Phuket people to love and cherish the town and their ancestors who have protected and kept the town in peace. Gov Maitree also took the opportunity to wish everybody in Phuket Town good luck and prosperity.

Today’s event was not only to promote making merit but also announce the planned ‘Phuket Town safety zone’. The project, which will begin in a matter of weeks, will be separated into two safety zones - called the Sino Zone  - from Dibuk road to Thalang road and the Portuguese zone, which will run from Phang Nga Road to Ratsada Road.

Mr Ponsing, the elected vice president of the Sino zone said, “Everyone participating has their own business but are also willing to give a hand to help the public and consider the safety of the community as great importance.”

Palat Jantarasopin, the president of the Phuket Town Safety Zone and also the ‘Make Merit’ event told The Phuket News, “In a week’s time, this Phuket Safety Zone group will have a meeting to discuss more details about the safety zone. Both the Sino and Portuguese zones will adopt the same policy.”
