PHUKET: A patrol boat and crew from the Phuket base of the Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet joined relevant government departments yesterday (May 16) in a full-scale marine disaster exercise off Pak Bara Pier in Satun Province.

It also involved local tour boats and speedboats, three inflatable dinghies and a Navy helicopter pulling “victims” out of the sea and ferrying them to land where a makeshift hospital awaited them.
The exercise, which assumed a disaster, such as a sinking involving many injured people in the water, provided unusual free entertainment for locals and tourists waiting for the ferry to Tarutao Island.
