According to the Association’s Somchai Silpanond, occupancy rates in Phuket were at 80 per cent on average during this year’s low season so far.
Phuket has enjoyed higher than usual occupancy rates during this year’s low season with Chinese and Russian visitors filling rooms, Mr Somchai said.
He added that overseas roadshows by public and private sector organisations had contributed to the low season rise, but added that long-term plans must still be made and put into action to improve the local environment.
Mr Somchai also expressed particular concern over the proliferation of billboards obstructing views and less than satisfactory hospitality personnel skills and language literacy, especially with Thailand entering the ASEAN community in 2015. – NNT
