Phuket: Kiatisak not yet satisfied despite win

Kiatisak Senamuang, Thailand’s Asian Games team coach, said his men still have a lot to improve despite Sunday’s (August 31) 8-1 win over Myanmar in a warm-up match.

Seven Thai players were on target at Phuket’s Surakul Stadium — Charyl Chappuis twice, Nurul Sriyamkem, Naruebodin Weerawatnodom, Krirkrit Taweekarn, Chanathip Songkrasin, Pinyo Innpinit and Chananan Pombupha.

It was Thailand’s first of three warm-up matches ahead of the Sept 19-Oct 4 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea where the football tournament is for U23 players.

“Our players are hungry to play for the national team and looking forward to the Asian Games,’’ Kiatisak said.

“They gave their all and wanted to win the match and places in the starting line-up. But there are many points that they have to improve. I believe that after the warm-up matches, we will become better.’’

Thailand’s next warm-up game is against Phuket FC at Surakul Statium tomorrow (September 3).

At the Asian Games, the Thais are in a relatively easy group.

They will be against the Maldives on Sept 15, Timor Leste on Sept 18 and Indonesia on Sept 22.

Thailand have never won an Asian Games medal in football but this time they are brimming with confidence. Bangkok Post
