Around 200 people attended the medical rally organised by The Phuket Provincial Health Office and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, with the aim of improving team building and DMAT skills.
Those taking part were grouped into teams of five to assist in 10 different simulated disaster situations including a bus crash, fire, electrical short circuit and water rescue. The training is not ranked but was evaluated by an expert team.
The rally attracted DMAT teams from as far as Korea, Sri Lanka and Japan, as well as from Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Chiang Rai and Phang Nga in Thailand. The event was also supported by hospital staff from around Phuket, Disaster Prevention and Relief Municipality Phuket Office and relevant authorities. Teams from Krabi and Nakhon Si Thammarat were observing.
