I prefer the well written Editorial of 17 January 2016, "Phuket is no safe haven for the vulnerable" for "failing to apply basic “street smarts” which yvonne eloquently comments - rather than the comments from the neo-colonialist doomsayer (Kurt) who find their adopted country too inadequate and far too removed from the fatherland.

Yvonne, You are very right.
However I not see Phuket Authorities declaring cycling to be a dangerous tourist affair with warning for snatching of personal belongings by locals, with risks to get dragged over street pavement.

Cycling alone is very dangerous on Phuket island, everywhere!
Danger comes from local bandits ( as in this article) or chance being hit by a speeding truck or car.

Tourists should be advised not to cycle on empty stretches of roads, neither in heavy traffic areas. For goodness sake, use cheap Public Transport to avoid attacks and getting injured or involved in serious accidents in traffic.Applies even to local Ladies on bicycles. This is not the first time this has happened. Somebody could get hurt badly or even killed.

Two cowards. Hope police catch them, than they get judged in Court.
A year in thai prison will be good for them.
And than ban them from Phuket island ( a quality tourist island)

The 70 year old lady for sure will be very traumatised.
Feel very sorry for her and her complete spoiled holiday.

Another black day for the Phuket holiday industry.
The news of this cowardice criminal attack wil...
