The Islanders' Geoffrey Doumeng (above left, in green) netted from the penalty spot half an hour in, and Giorgi Tzimakuridze (above right) put the score at 2-0 shortly after he was sent on to sub for Dudu at half-time, clipping the ball in over the goalkeeper's head.
But Rayong's Walther Henri scored from a rumble in front of the goal with 16 minutes left on the clock, and Nuttawut Khamrin grabbed an unlikely equalizer in the 93rd minute, which was roundly booed by many of the 4000 Phuket FC fans at Surakul Stadium. After the sometimes ill-tempered match ended 2-2, some angry Phuket fans chanted "Okk Pai", calling for the coach to be sacked.
For now Phuket FC are hovering in fifth place in Division One, more than a win behind the top group, and sixth-place BBCU still have an easy game in hand. Despite claiming a late point, Rayong FC remain five points from relegation safety.
