In the Jazz, driven by Sitthichai Chuseang, 39, of Surat Thani, they found a small amount of crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice, in a chewing gum packet.

But the police knew from their informant that Sitthichai was much more than an occasional user of the glass pipe. They knew that he had been selling ya ice and methamphetamine pills (ya bah) to teenagers in Phuket Town.

Under questioning Sitthichai admitted to being a dealer. He said that he got the drugs from a network based in Surat Thani and brought them to Phuket to sell. He did well – he bought a condominium from which he sold the drugs.

Naturally, police wanted to see Sitthichai’s condo. Searching it, they found five packets of ya bah, each containing 500 pills, and 19 packets of ya ice holding a total of 22.62 grams of the crystalline drug.

Ya bah costs users around B220 to B350 a pill, while ya ice costs around B3,000 a gram, so the haul seized from Sitthichai had a street value of around B220,000.
