Yet I don’t feel inclined to strap on a board and get out there. Some time ago, body surfing was my thing, giving myself over to the power of massive waves, moving with their flow and energy, an acceptance of something absolutely beyond my control.
As life evolves, so do our sources of joy and thrill-seeking. What once might have appealed as a huge adrenalin buzz, begins to look like a nomination for the Darwin awards. Arguably, the most dramatic catalyst for such a change is parenthood. Striving to find a healthy, happy balance between high energy activities and peaceful down-time can be overwhelming.
Ask the mother of a two-year-old child what would be bliss in her world right now. Chances are she’d paint a picture of peace, with kids engaged in a fun and creative activity while she enjoys a chat with a friend – perhaps about where to find the best waves for kite boarding next week.
So what floats your boat? If you’re a parent like me who seeks good company, and fun activities for the kids, then come join the “Creative Tots” group, which is held at the Book Café every Thursday morning.
