Phuket authorities advise caution

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial has issued a statement advising people to avoid the following areas in Phuket Town: Komarapat intersection, Satree Phuket intersection, Tor Nam intersection, Talang Road, Yaowarat Road, Ranong Road, Rassada Road, Bangkok Road and Suriyadet Circle.

“Please avoid these areas until the water levels return to normal,” the statement said.

Part of the Patong Hill road - halfway between the temple and Patong itself – has collapsed due to the heavy rain.

There have also been reports of flooding and long traffic delays around other parts of the island following last night’s heavy rain.

Parts of Phuket old town are flooded, including Dibuk, Yaowarat and Phang Nga Roads and there were major delays on Thepkrassattri Rd south of the Heroines Monument, with deep floods close to Wat Tha Reua and in Koh Kaeo.

In Koh Kaeo the villagers, fearful of flooding from the wash of passing traffic, set up barrels and poles in the road to direct vehicles into the far lane, understandably - but also adding to traffic woes.

In Patong itself, flooding of some streets is reported to be thigh-high.
