Mr Damrong retired at the end of September. A permanent replacement for him has yet to be named.
This morning (October 9) Mr Reungchai reported to a parliamentary commission on progress with the investigations into encroachment in Phuket’s Sirinart Marine National Park.
Accompanied by the recently appointed chief of Sirinart Park, Cheewapap Cheewatham, Mr Reungchai explained details of the investigation to the 15 MPs of the Land Environment and Natural Resources Commission.
Before the meeting, Mr Cheewapap told The Phuket News that training for the 366 investigation teams established by Mr Damrong before he retired will start tomorrow (October 10).
They will receive with lecturers from many experts, including a former judge, land and forest academics, and the DNP’s chief lawyer.
Though the heads of each team are the chiefs of national parks or conservation areas around the country, they still need to go through the training sessions in order to ensure that everyone is “on the same page”, he added.
Also tomorrow, the details of the 366 suspect plots of land in Phuket will be specified more clearly and where appropriate, the “names” of the plots will be announced, he said.
