Christopher Hart died at about 10pm, nearly an hour after the accident, at Thalang Hospital from head trauma, family members said. He is survived by a wife and three-year-old son.

"He was an all-around decent guy, anybody he came in contact with were touched by his words and personality," said Stephen Brierley, Hart’s brother-in-law.

Hart was a lover of sport and was frequently seen participating in local football and cricket events as well as helping coach youth rugby.

Hart played for the Village Cricket Team in the island's cricket league. The Phuket Cricket Group (PCG) has announced it will host a memorial for the Briton.

"He was really a truly lovely guy that was widely liked throughout Phuket," said longtime friend Alex Seago.

According to friends, Hart first came to Phuket in 2004 and was a trainer with Via Lingua.

Police have not revealed details on the driver of the truck that claimed Hart’s life.

A memorial service for Hart is scheduled for Monday at 1pm at Wat Pra Thong in Thalang.
