Personal data from more than 50 million people around the world was captured by hackers from the popular LivingSocial website.

Personal data from more than 50 million people around the world was captured by hackers from the popular LivingSocial website.

The Washington DC-based website claims to have 70 million customers around the world, and the servers that hold the information on the customers from Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, and the Philippines were not affected.

The hack was made by an unknown group who made off with names, birth dates, emails, and passwords. Credit card information and merchant financial data was not stolen since the company stores that separately, according to reports.

LivingSocial has not announced when the hack occurred exactly, but they are the latest in a string of major websites to have been hacked in the last two years. LinkedIn, Evernote, Zappos, and the PlayStation Network, have all had information stolen since 2011.

LivingSocial CEO Tim O’Shaghnessy wrote in a message to users that the company was actively working with law enforcement officials on an investigatation. And he urged all users to change their passwords immediately.

“If you’re using the same password on multiple sites, now’s the time to change them. Use a password manager like OnePass, RoboForm, LastPass, and KeyPass, among others” said information expert Chris Wysopal.
