Witnesses to the accident said the driver of the motorbike was travelling at high speed when the accident occurred.

The accident comes less than 24 hours after another Kawasaki Ninja rider was killed after his 1,000cc sports bike slammed head-on into a pickup truck at high speed in Chalong.

Dead at the scene of that accident was the motorbike rider, 20-year-old Chalermchart Podok, dressed in black jeans and a T-shirt. (See story here.)

The dangers of sport bikes on Phuket’s roads was highlighted in an Editorial in the May 5 issue of The Phuket News, which pointed out four young men who were killed in only eight weeks while riding the newly released Yamaha M-Slaz, which is plainly targeted at young riders. (See story here.)

The way and the speed with these Kawasaki Ninja are overtaking you are exciting.
Sometimes overtaking with high speed between 2 cars, missing the left and right outside mirrors of both cars on centimeters distance, and often through red traffic lights.
More luck than skill.
More never mind others than caring of other traffic participants.

Funny, thai life/works on Phuket are very slow. but driving?
Looks like the devil is after them.
Hahaha.

The problems are not the bikes or the roads. its the fact there is no rules or laws that are enforced on Phukets roads. This leads to having thousands of people in cars, modified scooters, lorries, buses and now big bikes with no clue how to ride / drive on public roads and no one to stop them or take the bad drivers off the roads. There are many big bikes here who ride slow and safe and respect other road users but they seem to be non Thai riders. It seems to be the Thai drivers / riders have had a free run for so long that they have no clue now as how to be safe on the roads. Very sad that so many die each year and nothing is done to make them safe.
