Mr Hurley, 39, suffered seven broken ribs, his left leg was broken in three places, his left wrist was smashed and he suffered internal bleeding said a member of the emergency room staff in Patong Hospital.
At about 3pm he was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
A police investigator said that Mr Hurley had been staying in room 1801 in the hotel, and had run out of money. He made about 15 calls to his family in Australia before leaping from the window, the officer added.
One report said that Mr Hurley crashed through a canopy before hitting the ground, breaking his fall somewhat and, perhaps, saving his life.
