Major landslip on Patong Hill

PHUKET: There has been a large landslip on Patong Hill following heavy rain in the area last night.

Part of the Patong Hill road - about 150 metres to the Kathu side of Sea Pearl Villas – has collapsed.

The motorbike lane and most of one of the other lanes has disappeared on the Patong-bound side of the road, relaced by a yawning hole several metres deep.

There have also been reports of flooding and long traffic delays around other parts of the island following last night’s heavy rain.

Parts of Phuket old town are flooded, including Dibuk, Yaowarat and Phang Nga Roads and there were major delays on Thepkrassattri Rd south of the Heroines Monument, with deep floods close to Wat Tha Reua and in Koh Kaeo.

In Koh Kaeo the villagers, fearful of flooding from the wash of passing traffic, set up barrels and poles in the road to direct vehicles into the far lane, understandably - but also adding to traffic woes.

In Patong itself, rain is falling again, and flooding of some streets is reported to be thigh-high.
