Long Live His Majesty The King
Saturday 5 December 2015, 09:34AM
Today, December 5, the Kingdom of Thailand will gather in various places and light a candle to mark the 88th birthday anniversary of their Patriarch, His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, or as he is known internationally, King Rama 9 – the ninth monarch of the Chakri Dynasty. The youngest son of HRH Prince Mahidol Adulyadej (the Prince of Songkla), and HRH Princess Srinagarindra, (the Princess Mother), HM King Bhumibol was born on December 5, 1927 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Initially briefly enrolled at the Mater Dei School in Bangkok, HM moved to Switzerland in 1933 with his mother, sister and brother, where then-Prince Bhumibol attended École Nouvelle de la Suisse Romande in Lausanne. HM went on to obtain a high school diploma from Gymnase Classique Cantonal of Lausanne, majoring in French literature, Latin and Greek. On one of his frequent trips to Paris, the story goes, HM met the love of his life, Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara, daughter of the Thai ambassador to France. A love blossomed and the rest is history. An avid conservationist, agriculturalist, sailor, photographer, jazz composer and saxophonist, HM The King has fathered three Princesses and one Prince – the Heir to the throne – and Thais consider His Majesty as the Father of the Thai Nation. Thus, his birthday – December 5 – is also celebrated as Father’s Day. With that, Class Act Media and The Phuket News would like to extend a very Happy Birthday to His Majesty. Long Live The King.
