Rain did little to dampen the spirits of those who attended the opening ceremony, held from 5pm this evening at Surakul Stadium in Phuket Town.

On display were six impressive performances from Phuket students, including Phuket singer Jaruwat “Dome” Cheawaram, this year’s winner of television singing competition The Star.

Also performing was Pavida “Silvy” Moriggi, who competed in the same competition in 2011, and who tonight sang the official Phuket Games song.

The open ceremony was presided by Deputy Prime Minister and Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa.
