Kickboxer Caroline, 51, to fight on Friday

PHUKET: Caroline Davey, the 51-year-old Australian nurse who has never watched a Muay Thai fight owing to “empathising too much”, will be entering the ring at Bangla Boxing Stadium on Friday (September 28) for her first full-on bout of Thai boxing.

Despite having trained for only a month, Caroline is confident that she’ll be able to hold her own when she gets in the ring.

“My style will be lots of confrontational defence. I know I have a very powerful kick, so if I can stay on my feet long enough I know I’ll be all right,” she said.

Up to now, however, Caroline – who finished her month-long course of Muay Thai training at the Sumalee Boxing Gym yesterday (September 20) – is unsure who she will be facing in the ring.

“They [the promoters and the boxing stadium] have started doing the posters now, so I’ll find out soon.”

Caroline has admitted that the thing she is most nervous about is performing the Wai Khru – the traditional dance before the bout.

As to the match, she said, “Whether I win or lose, it’s going to be a great experience.”
