In a carbon-copy repeat of a robbery at the same branch on October 31, the man, wearing a motorcycle helmet, walked in and pointed a handgun at one of the tellers, giving her no choice but to hand over the money.
In the previous robbery Anudit Kaewmookda, who was arrested just five days later, escaped with B2.7 million.
He confessed to another robbery at a Kasikornbank branch in January last year, saying he favoured the bank as a target because it did not have security guards at its branches. The Phuket News called Kasikornbank who confirmed they still have no security guards.
Police are currently interviewing staff with the aim of identifying the copycat robber.
An investigator said, “He came on a sky-blue Yamaha Fino scooter, and was wearing a helmet to match. He is of medium build and he used his left hand to hold the gun.”
Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Choti Chavalviwat said, “We are now collecting evidence. I believe he planned this carefully because he chose a secluded place to park his bike.
“I already told Kasikornbank that it needs to beef up security because having no security guard makes it more risky. Anyhow, the police will follow up and catch him.”
