Irish community gives back

The Life Home Project Foundation has been providing a home environment for children affected or infected with HIV since 2001. The foundation also helps and assists mothers with the disease, bridging the gaps that the stigma of this disease so often perpetrates.

The women are encouraged to live outside of the project once their symptoms are under control with the administration of antiretroviral medication. Once they feel healthy and strong enough, the women find that they can rejoin their communities and live productive normal lives.

The Life Home Project Foundation has grown from a small rented house in Phuket Town to a purpose built facility by the sea in Koh Siray, presently housing and caring for 18 children, mostly orphaned.

The foundation is now experiencing a new challenge, as many of the children become teenagers. The project needs to provide them with stimulating activities, along with nurturing and guidance to be young responsible adults. The project has been blessed with the assistance of a Juvenile Court Judge who has taken personal time out to come to the project and speak with the teenagers explaining the dangers of drugs, teenage pregnancy and all the many challenges they may face as they grow older. The Life Home Project also aims to prepare them to go on to third level education. As many of these children are orphaned it will be the foundation’s on going responsibility to get the funding to allow them to attend university and become well-educated young adults.

As one can imagine this is costly and this is why fundraisers like the St. Patrick’s Day Ball on March 14 are needed to raise much needed funding for the lives of the 18 children and teenagers under their care.

The Irish Times Pub in Patong will be providing drinks. There will be an assortment of Irish beverages to celebrate a St. Patrick’s Day in style here in Phuket!
