Pol Lt Wuttiwat Liangboonjinda of Chalong Police said that Channarong Haprakon, 49, had been out with his wife, 23-year-old Sirirat Jandee. They drove back home to Soi Suksan 2 at about midnight.

While Mrs Sirirat went into the house, Mr Channarong drove his minibus (he earned a living from driving it) to his usual parking place about 50 metres from their home.

When he did not come back, Mrs Sirirat became concerned and went to look for him.

She soon came across a crowd of people clustered around the dead body of her husband, covered in blood from multiple stab wounds.

He had deep stab wounds in many places on his body and also in the face and one ear. The most severe injuries were to his chest,” Lt Wuttiwat said.

Witnesses told us that there was a fight and Chainarong also suffered many small injuries. He ran away after the murder. Officers were able to catch him soon after, and took him to Vachira Phuket Hospital for treatment.”

Lt Wuttiwat noted, “The killer had threatened Mr Channarong many times because, before she was married, Mrs Sirirat was his girlfriend. We believe he knew that Mr Channarong always parked his minibus in the same place, and lay in wait for him.”

Chainarong is currently being held at Chalong Police Station where he is being questioned about the killing.
