Gig performed British singer Adele’s Rolling in the Deep last night (July 29) in the semi finals of the competition, and was one of two selected to be in the September final.
Gig was the Judges Choice and therefore was allowed to proceed to the final.
“I’m so excited to get through. I thought last night I didn’t sing too well, I didn’t think I had enough power.
“[After I sang] I thought people might not want to vote for me any more, I thought I wouldn’t get through. So when I did, I was very excited.
“When I went backstage everyone was chanting “Gig, Gig”. I could hardly believe I got through.
“The judges said I sang well, and commented on how much I’ve changed from last time, when I auditioned.”
She underwent a complete glamorous transformation to resemble singer Adele, a far cry from when she auditioned several months ago, wearing a simple outfit of tank top and jeans.
“I looked so different from the audition, many people didn’t recognise me.”
When it was announced she was through, Gig looked stunned, and was joined by her mother, father and brother, who had all travelled from Yala to see her perform.
“They were very proud and happy.”
Also on stage with Gig was her fiancée Soeren, who Gig said “cried a little bit” because he was so happy for her.
Today (July 30) Gig was driving back to Phuket, and expressed her deep gratitude for all the support islanders have given her.
“I just want to thank everyone for every vote they made, and for supporting me. Please keep supporting me until the show is over.”
When asked if she thought she would win the competition – her ultimate dream – Gig said, “I’m not sure, but I really hope I can. I will try my best.”
