Gov says goodbye

PHUKET: A farewell banquet for Governor Tri Augkaradecha on Monday night (September 24) attracted some 1,500 people – a veritable Who’s Who of the great and good in Phuket – to the governor’s official residence.

At the banquet, the climax of a round of farewell parties Gov Tri and his wife Nalinee have made over the past two weeks, he gave the speech in which he thanked bureaucrats “for your cooperation and good organization of every department and office in Phu­ket”.

Gov Tri will officially retire today (September 28). “After I retire, I will move back to Bangkok, spend time with my family, go to the temple and relax.”

Vice-Governor Sommai Preechasilpa said that the new governor “will come soon to Phuket – in about four or five days.”

At time of going to press, the identity of the new governor had not been officially released, though two possibilities have been tipped by government watchers.

They are Maitree Intusut, Governor of Phayao province in the North, and Jirayut Watchanarat, governor of Petchabun in Isarn.
