German retiree found dead

PHUKET: A retired former German civil servant, Elke Doris Geissler, 60, was found dead in her home near Wat Kata on Friday morning (August 10).

Police said Mrs Geissler had moved to Phuket with her husband four years ago after retiring from the civil service, moving into the house on Patak Rd.

The night before she died, the Geisslers held a party at her home with friends. The following morning her husband, after returning from his usual morning exercise, opened the bedroom door and called her to breakfast, police said. “But she didn’t respond and he found she was dead.”

Police said they believe Geissler suffered from an unspecified chronic disease. They reported her death to the German embassy.

Another report on Geissler’s death suggested her demise may not have been related to a chronic condition: she reportedly complained of feeling unwell after eating seafood barbecue during the previous night’s party and went to lie down. The seafood was bought in Rawai.

Her body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
