Funeral rites held for slain Phuket soldier

PHUKET: The funeral of a Phuket-born army private who was slain in Pattani last Wednesday (Nov 2) is currently being held at Wat Sopon Wanaram in Pa Khlok, with a number of government officials already having been to the temple to show their respects for the 23-year-old man.

Private Thanapon Kaewpetch, 23, was shot dead on Nov 2 while on duty in the deep south province of Pattani, his body was brought home to Phuket by helicopter on Thursday (Nov 3) and funeral rites are currently being held before the cremation takes place on Thursday (Nov 10).

Phuket Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan, Thalang Police Chief Col Sompong Tirapakool and Gen Akom Pongprom of the 41st Military Circle on Saturday (Nov 5) paid their respects to Private Thanapon and together placed a wreath bestowed by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and members of the Royal family in front of Private Thanapon’s coffin.
