Friends of missing Dutch man make Phuket appeal

PHUKET: Worried friends of a 44-year-old Dutch man who has dropped off the radar have asked people in Phuket to keep an eye out for him and let them know if they come across him.

Bas Meulendijks was last heard from two weeks ago. His friend, Martin van der Akker, said Mr Meulendijks was close to a Thai woman called Joy, who works as a manager in a hotel in Phuket or nearby.

“Her age is, we think, between 31 and 36 years.” Mr van der Akker wrote. “She is divorced and has a son called Bank who is about six years old. She lives with her parents who own a rubber plantation.”

Mr Meulendijks is also divorced, with two children from his marriage, a boy and a girl.
