Let’s start with tennis.
Three possibilities: First is Intana Court. From town, take Chao Fa West road towards Chalong. Turn left into the soi that has the Tiger Muay Thai gym, and the courts are about 50m down. There are three of them.
It’s open from 7.30am-10pm daily and costs B300/hr during the day, or B360 after dark.
Second is Jomthong Village on Kwang Rd Junction, keep straight until you see Jomthong Village sign on the right. There are two courts and it costs B50/person. First come first served. Ha ha.
Third is the OrBorJor Tennis Court in Phuket Town, right opposite the Phuket Provincial Hall at the intersection of Damrong and Surin Rds. It’s open from 4pm-9pm and costs B100. You can make arrangements to play at other times.
For a bit of shuttlecock and battledore, head for Andaman Badminton, which has eight rubber courts and four cement courts. There’s parking space, too.
It’s at the Slaughterhouse intersection (Yee Teng intersection), near Siam Commercial Bank on Chao Fa Rd in Phuket Town. There’s a small road behind the bank where you’ll see an orange and green sign.
It’s open Mon-Fri, 4pm-10pm; Sat-Sun, 4pm-8pm. It costs B150/hr.
To pump iron, here are a couple of possibilities. There’s the Smart Gym Suan Luang on Chao Fa East road, next to Big One grocery store, and near the Siam Commercial Bank. it’s open from 9am-9pm daily and costs B80 a session
Or try another smart – Smart Gym Fitness near Robinson in Phuket Town. If you drive from the Royal Phuket City Hotel towards the Thavorn Grand Hotel, turn left at the Expo shopping centre traffic lights. The gym is opposite Expo. It’s also open from 9am-9pm daily, and costs B180 a session.
A couple more gyms for you: First, Chalong Gym. From Phuket Town, take Chao Fa East Rd towards Chalong. Chalong Fitness is the blue building on the left hand side of the road, about 200m before Land and House. It’s open 8am-9pm daily and costs B150 for a whole day of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Then in the south there’s Nai Harn Gym, in the Bzenter Mall in Naiharn, the mini mall \that also houses Da Vinci restaurant. It’s open from 7am-9pm daily and costs B200 a visit.
Swimming. Two recommendations: First, the Phuket City Municipal Pool, a 25-metre public pool in Saphan Hin, on the southeast edge of Phuket Town. It’s open Monday to Saturday from 2pm-9pm. It costs five baht for children and ten baht for adults. Stay until your skin is good and wrinkled, or longer.
The other is Jomthong Village, on Kwang road, between Chao Fa West and East Rds. Turn into Kwang Rd and keep going until you see Jomthong Village sign. It costs forty baht a day to lounge in the pool.
