After she reported the assault to police, they sent the 34-year-old victim to hospital in Satun Town for examination.
Police said the victim told them she had been drinking beer on Thursday evening with three friends, about 500 metres from where she was staying.
“The group broke up, and [the woman], who was intoxicated, walked towards her resort, which was not far off.
“Suddenly, a strange man ran up from behind and grabbed her by the waist, trying to wrestle her down. He hit her in the face and stomach three or four times, then dragged her into the darkness where he raped her.”
The rapist also stole the woman’s cell-phone and B1,000.
Police believe the attackers remains on the island and have pictures of his face from CCTV. They expect to catch him quickly.
