Englishman, 52, found dead in Patong hotel room thought to have suffered heart attack: Police

According to Lt Col Wirapong Rakkito, special-case investigator from Kathu Police Station, police were notified by staff at the international-chain hotel at 7.30pm that an English tourist had been found dead in his hotel bed.

The deceased, named as Mr Paul Joseph Humphrey, was reportedly found by his older brother, Mr Jeremy Humphrey, who did not wish to press the case as he was convinced Paul had suffered a heart attack, Lt Col Wirapong said.

Paul's corpse was found completely in the nude, wrapped in blankets and lying on his side.

Police estimated that he had been dead for no less than six hours.

A hotel check found that the last time his hotel room door had been opened was at 1:46 am [presumebly by Paul, waiting to verify], early this morning, and CCTV footage verified that no one else had entered or left the hotel room since, that is until his brother finally entered the room to discover the body [waiting to verify how brother entered room].

From their initial investigation, police believe Paul had suffered from a heart attack, but nonetheless his body has been sent to Patong Hospital for further examination.
