Police tried to flag the truck down after it was seen swerving between motorway lanes near the town of Sinsheim, but discovered that the truck’s driver was unconscious.
Other cars on the road were held back by police vans as the truck was left to run its course, smashing off the crash barriers at the side of the autobahn several times, until its emergency braking system activated and brought the truck to a halt.
The police say the Czech driver had suffered a serious heart attack, and was in hospital fighting for his life. Luckily no-one was hurt by the runaway truck.
