The body of 19-year-old Ida Maria Bexar was found lying face down on the roof of a property at 2:15pm on March 28 by rescue workers and police. (See story here.)

Capt Yingyong Chuykij from Kathu Police told The Phuket News today (Apr 5), “We have yet to rule the death as suicide because we are still waiting for the doctor’s report.

“The body has already been taken back to Finland by the embassy, and we handed all her personal belongings to them. Our investigation into this case has come to a dead end due to lack of evidence,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the top floor where she allegedly jumped from from has no CCTV cameras and no one in the area witnessed anything suspicious prior to the incident. We have seen some CCTV footage from around the guesthouse but we saw nothing unusual,” he added.

Capt Yingyong went on to say that they had questioned a Swedish man whom they were told was her boyfriend and that he was very cooperative.

“He told us that he and the victim met in Phuket just over a month ago and that she was here alone. We also questioned all his Swedish friends and the people they hung out with, but we got nothing from them and they have all been cleared from our investigation,” Capt Yingyong said.

The boyfriend, who police declined to name, told police after the body was found on March 28, that at around 4am that day he and Ms Bexar had an argument so he left her in the room and came next door to spend the night with his friend at the Good Dream Guesthouse and that was the last time he saw her, Capt Yingyong added.

* The term "Finnish girl" in the headline was later adjusted to "Finnish teen" to avoid any misunderstandings whether a 19-year-old constituted a "girl", regardless of social context. The photo was also removed as it was later deemed by the Editor as inappropriate for use with the story due to a policy implemented after this story was posted.

"Girls' night out" is slang. Slang does not belong in a headline about a young woman who has lost her life. Maybe some feel threatened by adult females, or more likely simply have no use for women who are not high up on the f- ability scale which "girl" is code for.

Christy Sweet | 28 May 2019 - 08:21:31

Seems editorial staff agree and the term was changed to teen- albeit at 19? Do TPN headline writers have an aversion to the term "young woman"?

Christy Sweet | 28 May 2019 - 08:18:12

Ad hominem attacks aside, women are not immune from sexism- indeed many truly believe they are not as capable of men. Regardless, this is a headline in a newspaper I'm referring to- not idle chat. Headlines about 19 yo males are not referring to them as "boys".

Rorri_2 | 27 May 2019 - 14:57:06

"Calling adult women "girls" demeans them and that is exactly why it is perpetuated," but women use the same word to discribe other women, is that ok for you, you are do you only see all men as being evil bast#*ds.. you can't, your attitude seems anti men, I guess you have issues to deal with, the rest of us can live, and be happy, with our girls.

Christy Sweet | 27 May 2019 - 09:03:35

I'm objecting to a headline, not slang chat at a strip-club. Chauvinists will always defend their sexism. Calling adult women "girls" demeans them and that is exactly why it is perpetuated.

Rorri_2 | 27 May 2019 - 08:58:32

"Semantics," Christy, have you ever notice you are the only one complaining, and there are other women who read this and guess what, these "girls" do NOT support you, so, out of so many, why do you think you are right, even the "girls" family and friends don't complain... geez...

DeKaaskopp | 26 May 2019 - 10:05:38

I hope that woman doesn't start digging out more old articles with that kind of boring subject.

Jor12 | 24 May 2019 - 16:59:10

If people wish to ignore warnings not go swimming in a raging swell, that is their responsibility if they want to die, not societies - that was the comment. Good lord, sensible, intelligent, relevant comment? Not on here. Must be another website you been reading.

Christy Sweet | 24 May 2019 - 14:37:07

Immaterial to whom? You, but not me. A woman is dead. Not enough info to have much to say about it but chauvinist habits of headline writers is of interest - how language shapes cultures. Does the probably Thai headline writer have any clue how he is perpetuating a diminished view of young women into children?
PN Ed., please respond.

Christy Sweet | 24 May 2019 - 12:05:25

Semantics? Reducing a woman to status of a child in a headline is atrocious, in these circumstances especially. Almost as bad as excusing it. Language diminishing women is still rampant among the legion flocking to Thailand. Enough.

Fascinated | 24 May 2019 - 10:27:51

Whether she was a 'girl' or a woman' is immaterial, the fact that she has died is the crucial issue.

Rorri_2 | 23 May 2019 - 12:22:39

Wow, Ms Sweet, going back 3 years. Let me say this Men go out with the "boys", they kick a football with the "boys" women say they are going out with the "girls", having a "girls" night out etc... get over it, your being very pedantic, and for what reason. Cheers bays and girls... let's ban politcal correctness, it's stuffing everything up.... oh Ms ...

Timothy | 23 May 2019 - 08:51:54

This guy just wants attention. He hasn't been commenting lately, and it was a pleasure to read sensible, intelligent, relevant comments without his garbage. I was hoping we had heard the last of him...He talks about compassion....I remember his comments about an article on drowning victims. They are all fools who deserved to die....I believe he said....Very nice.

Jor12 | 23 May 2019 - 06:14:29

Why do you have to disrespect the memory of a person who tragically lost her life. Keep your silly semantics to yourself.

Christy Sweet | 22 May 2019 - 13:11:13

"Girl...woman.."? So is she a child or an adult? 19 yo, yep that's an adult but who knows in sexist la-la land where chauvinists congregate to procreate with economically disadvantaged women- or are they too, "girls"?

Joe12 | 07 April 2016 - 21:32:18

Sir Burr... Read the Human Rights Commission report on the Ko Tao trial. Read more about the Red Bull heir and see what a good lawyer can do for you who knows how to use the law for his client's advantage...and so it goes on. Knowledge is power...ignorance is bliss. I don't intend to give you a tutorial on defamation you can check this yourself.

Joe12 | 07 April 2016 - 20:49:39

Dick..."have little to no knowledge or capability as to how to conduct an investigation." Where is your evidence for this outrageous statement and what are your qualifications for making this statement? What gives you the right to say such nonsense to a grieving family?

Richard Vickers | 07 April 2016 - 17:20:12

Additionally, I said nothing offensive in relation to this poor girl and/or her family. I have a daughter that is close to her age, and I cannot fathom the pain and grief caused by this unfortunate event. I sincerely hope they all find peace...I am very sad for them all.

Richard Vickers | 07 April 2016 - 17:16:07

Thanks for the backing Sir Burr, but I'm sure you've realized by now that Joeker is new here, and speaks as if he was formerly a wannabe high-falootin lawyer, but couldn't get out of the public defender's office. Now he's in Phuket and spouting off like Perry Mason whenever someone comments on a legal or law enforcement-related case. He is utterly clueless, and mostly antagoni...

Sir Burr | 07 April 2016 - 10:41:20

Joe12,
What's defamatory about Richard's post?
Regarding the police and their competence, here are a few words.
Ko Tao
Red Bull
Orachorn
Saudi jewels

......and the list goes on and on.

Joe12 | 07 April 2016 - 06:19:56

Dick.. there were also no eye witnesses nor it appears forensic evidence until the medical examination report and pathology tests are available for the inquest so i fail to see how u arrive at your bizzare conclusion, but then most of your comments are quite bizzare so is not unusual. Your comments are also defamatory and highly offensive to the grieving family so i hope they read this and conside...

Richard Vickers | 05 April 2016 - 21:13:41

Hmmm... inconclusive investigation means there was no TV clips to watch. Thai police are a complete farce, and have little to no knowledge or capability as to how to conduct an investigation. Now I'm waiting for the wizard at the hospital to report the cause of death... which will be "intense impact with hard surface". What a tragedy for this poor young lady's family and friends...
