Mr Marco Antonio, a 40-year-old German tourist, was driving alone in his rented white Honda when he collided with a grey rented Toyota being driven by 38-year-old Thai national Miss Tananrat Sriboonyarux and her two passengers, who were both also Thai.

Police confirmed the four involved in the crash are safe and have been taken to Bangkok Hospital Phuket.

Capt Chalermsak Akkatian of Kathu Police Station was notified of the accident at 1:12 pm today.

“There were two cars involved in an accident this afternoon that included Thai and foreign drivers,” he confirmed.

“The total number of people injured was four. Thankfully the injuries are not serious and just left those involved slightly shaken with minor headaches, some initial breathing difficulties and some minimal scratches.

“Eye witness reports indicate one of the cars crossed over into the opposite lane which is when they collided,” said Capt Chalermsak.

"The accident brought traffic to a halt in both lanes for a while. The cars have now been removed and traffic movements have resumed to normal.”

Asked whether anyone would be facing charges for the accident, Capt Chalermsak replied: “I need to see whether there is any CCTV camera footage available to allow me to investigate further.

“I am on my way to Bangkok Hospital Phuket right now to check on their condition and also question them about the incident,” he added.

"Right now reading your posts is like a comedy" Uncle, looks like you like comedy, otherwise you would not keep reading comments from a four days old article.

Jor12 | 30 January 2020 - 03:24:16

The scientific classification is undisputed. You may categorise groups of people however you want. Interesting how you classify Maori, Indian or Tamil or any other race of people. I would call the posts unintelligible garbage.

HubertK | 29 January 2020 - 22:47:07

@ Uncle. I do understand your concern, but if you are a frequent reader you should know that mostly those lengthy ramblings arise because of the comments made by especially one person and his constant negativity.Followed by more comments from the same person out of stubbornness or ignorance.Without that person the whole comment section would benefit.

Uncle | 29 January 2020 - 13:03:52

Isn't it time that most all of those writing below start to grow up and - not carry on rambling like small schoolchildren who "don't like what the other one says"?
Please get your acts together and stick the the matters on hand.
When you do (if you are able to) your comments and inputs might finally be taken seriously.
Right now reading your posts is like a comedy.

Hubertk.. simple test, drive on any hwy, at the posted speed and see how many drive at that speed, try stopping on an amber ligh, and risk death, stop at a pedestrian crossing, and see what happens, watch what happens at a stop sign a simple challenge, report back.

Rorri_2 | 29 January 2020 - 12:37:47

Hubertk... learn what hyperbole is, and not be so citical, a little understanding goes a long way.

Christy Sweet | 29 January 2020 - 11:46:37

No, Thais are not a race and negative commentary on all and any cultures and or societies is appropriate at any time. I'll say it as I've driven all over the world- Thais are the WORST drivers in the world -The only reason Libya has a higher fatality rate is they count deaths that occur in the hospital later, Thailand does not.

Kurt | 29 January 2020 - 11:35:17

Mr HubertK, it are not my stats. And thai government publish almost weekly about speeding and drivers' alcohol level while driving. And we not talk about the good drivers, but about the bad dangerous drivers who cause so much misery on thai roads.

Jor12 | 29 January 2020 - 09:29:54

K...Thai's a race. Pity your comments are not respectful toward anyone. As for comments, this is an English speaking newspaper. If one wishes to comment in German find a German print. One cannot understand anything of what is said.

HubertK | 28 January 2020 - 19:30:49

Mr.Kurt, your stats may be right, but it doesn't make every Thai a racer.I know many good and bad Thai driver. And to bring up this statistic on an article where the Thai driver obviously wasn't at fault is simply stupid. So you are still generalizing. And not for the first time.

HubertK | 28 January 2020 - 19:15:31

Mr.Ro., I comment on what I read and not on any possible meanings. "They always drive faster.." is a clear statement and therefore generalizing. My critics have nothing to do with "first language"or not. You are using this to excuse someone.

Kurt | 28 January 2020 - 12:11:13

And, thai are not a race. It is a population with a thai nationality, with many having their family roots in China, Myanmar, Laos ( Isan people), Cambodia and Malaysia. And we all treat each other with respect.

Rorri_2 | 28 January 2020 - 11:36:24

Hubert... fair go mate... you criticise someone whose English is clearly not his first language... just try and understand the gist of his comments, most readers do, a small number don't but that says more about then, than Ks comments.

Kurt | 28 January 2020 - 10:59:23

@HubertK, seen the thai world top position about dying people on the road, ( with twice a year a '7 dangerous days' progam) I am not generalising. Ever seen the practical driving test at Transport Bureau? A 150 metres parcours to drive with 4 kmh speed. Pass, and free on thai roads!

DeKaaskopp | 27 January 2020 - 21:51:04

"the 2 pictures not bring to your conclusion"Huh,strange response !

HubertK | 27 January 2020 - 20:03:09

Mr.Kurt.Your comment is clearly generalizing. And why should "Wiesel" not play the "racist card"? Is this card reserved only for you, whenever you feel unfairly treated in Thailand? Last but not least: The 2 pictures showing indeed who was right and who was wrong. And if the white car was driven by the German man, clearly it was his fault.

Christy Sweet | 27 January 2020 - 11:38:16

Thais are not a race, albeit many seem to believe it's so..

Kurt | 27 January 2020 - 11:13:59

@DeK, the 2 pictures not bring to your conclusion.
@Wiesel, don't play the 'racist card'.

Wiesel | 27 January 2020 - 09:21:17

racist taunts should be banned.

DeKaaskopp | 26 January 2020 - 21:46:43

K,judging by the pictures obviously the German guy was wrong. You did again comment faster than you can think.

Kurt | 26 January 2020 - 12:47:33

Thai have to drive more careful and slower. They always drive faster than they can think.

Concerned | 26 January 2020 - 08:57:07

For a save way with a Tunnel to Patong. Ps seen many motorists cars and bikers not to slows down before a curve and dragged therefore over the middle line by force, even worse they ones who try to overtake before a curve.
