Staff of the Department of Marine and Coast Resources (DMCR), called to the scene, found that the animal was a mature female about 2.3 metres long and weighing between 70 and 100 kilograms.
Dr Kongkeit Kitiwatthanawong of the DMCR told The Phuket News today, “The dolphin had wounds on her tail but we won’t know the cause of death until we have carried out an autopsy tomorrow.
“We think she had been dead for about a day. This is, I believe, the first dolphin death we have seen in Phuket this year.”
