Blaze Cause, 11; Gaia Moon, 11; Rianne Davies, 16; Jasmin Shadravan, 14; and Paul Malloy, 16, make up the Legends of Siam.
The group was officially established in October last year after being introduced to each other through their parents. They started meeting at the Legend recording studio owned by Blaze’s dad, Gary.
“We were just jamming and then the idea for a band just came naturally,” says Rianne.
In February the band won the Phuket Young Battle of the Bands competition, which shot the group to local fame and included the opportunity to have their single Mix it Up professionally recorded.
Since then the band have been in demand around the island, performing at the likes of Club Med and the Rockin Angels bar in Phuket Town. They also have a performance scheduled for the Phuket Gay Pride week later this month.
They have plans to record a full album and are in the process of learning new songs written by Gary, and also writing some of their own.
Blaze, originally from South Africa, plays the guitar, and has big dreams for the band. At age 11, he and fellow band member Gaia are the youngest members of the group.
“I love learning new songs and being on stage, I feel nervous and excited. I would love to be in Hollywood alongside all the big names, and I’d love to be number one on the US Billboard.”
For Rianne, who is part British and Thai, joining the band gave her a chance to reconnect with her favourite instrument – the drums.
“I started playing the drums when I was nine, but lately I had hardly touched my drum kit. I started playing again properly when I joined the band.
“I’m a really nervous person, but being in the band has given me more confidence and stopped me from being so shy. It lets me be creative.”
