While an excavator tidied up the banks of the klong – Phuket’s longest and biggest canal – a switch was thrown to start a pump pumping water from a large pond into the canal to speed up flow.

The governor joined with others in flinging balls of effective microbes (EM) into the canal and then mounted a tanker truck and sprayed the canal with Enzyme Ionic Plasma (EIP). EM balls and EIP have a similar function – to speed up the breaking down of sewage.

Long-term, the aim is to install three waste watre treatment plants to handle the untreated sewage currently flowing from areas in Rassada Municipality into the klong, which flows, reeking, through the centre of Phuket Town.
