He was arrested after a phone call was made to him, inviting him to a meeting at the Sea Pearl Villa hotel in Patong.

Police said Glass has a long record of sex crimes against juveniles.

In 1974 in Scotland he was placed on parole for a year. He was arrested three times in the United States, in 1982, 1989 and 1990 when he was jailed for 20 years. He was released after serving eight years in jail.

He was arrested again in Malta for similar offences, once in 2001 and twice in 2006. Once again he was jailed, this time for six years. He again released after four years.

Glass arrived in Thailand in 2011 to work in a hotel in Phuket.

Complaints were laid against him that he had sexually assaulted two boys in the hotel. Those complaints were still under investigation when the request for his arrest and return to the UK was received.

The complaints will now not be pursued as Glass was sent home under escort this morning.

“After we received the request from the British Embassy, we cancelled his visa,” Pol Capt Angkhan Yasanop of Phuket Immigration Police said today.

“He was sent back to Britain this morning.”
