Brexit Poll: Should the UK remain in the EU, or leave? A Phuket Perspective

The nation will decide on whether the United Kingdom will remain a member of the European Union, or whether it will become the first member to leave the six-decade-old bloc.

In Phuket, people of all nationalities seem to have an opinion on the very divisive issue.

To this, The Phuket News asks our readers the simple question that all UK voters will be asked: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?”

The two responses available, as in the referendum itself, are:

La Boucherie
  • Remain a member of the European Union
  • Leave the European Union

To better gauge opinions from different regions of the world, respondents are asked to identify the regions that best describe them. Options available are:

  • UK citizen
  • European
  • Thai
  • Russian or of a former Soviet country
  • Australian / New Zealander
  • Asian (Other than Thai)
  • North/Central American
  • South American
  • Other

The poll will close at midnight June 22, before the polls open in the UK.

Swerv, i'm voting out too, i'm back here at the moment but will be in Thailand beginning of July, hopefully a happy guy, the EU is a sinking ship going down fast, i think a few countries are seeing this, there\'s talks of other countries people demanding a vote now too!

swerv | 22 June 2016 - 12:17:16

malczx7r: I was referring to the poll on PN ( Kurt was too) which was showing leave at 73%. Kurt had the figures the wrong way around.
Back in the UK the split is almost even and the deciding factor will be which way the current undecided decide to vote.
I have been out of the country too long so i can't vote, but if i did i would vote leave. The EU is a mess and squanders money like it is ...

Bjay | 21 June 2016 - 18:05:04

I am Voting Out on Thursday. There are too many scare statements been spread by David Cameron & his cronies! I hope it will be a clear cut outcome for Brexit. I believe there are other EU members who will seek to have there own Referendum!

malczx7r | 21 June 2016 - 16:54:18

Kurt and swerv, you are both way out, the split is too close to call!

Kurt | 21 June 2016 - 14:36:34

It is not a matter of 'facts', but polls.
As I said, let's wait and see. Just 2 more days.
A while ago I did believe in a Brexit, but presently it is not realistic to believe that will happen.
During last week the thinking in Uk changed a lot.
Thursday is the day of truth.

swerv | 21 June 2016 - 11:09:20

Kurt: You have your facts wrong again. 73% want brexit 27% want to remain.

jogi | 20 June 2016 - 22:03:33

Switzerland thanks to the the voting power of his citizen could avoid to become EU member. they was threaten by EU member-states with all kind of sanctions (one of them was Spain, a few days after they become EU member). Switzerland do better then any EU member-state, Scandinavian non-members do fine, and the UK will do fine in the long run. I myself believe the megalomania of the EU will break h...

Kurt | 20 June 2016 - 22:00:17

Well, the last outcome check of a Brexit, yes or no, is that 73 % of the English don't want it, and 27% want a Brexit.
Let's see and wait.

QUOTE FROM malczx7r
"Some stupid comments from the non-English".
To avoid permanent conflict, it is better for a Brexit, then the English will be able to speak the same language between well-educated English speaking UK members such as Wales, Scottish, Northern-Irland.

malczx7r | 19 June 2016 - 20:46:57

Some stupid comments from the non-English, they have no idea what is happening in the UK!! If Britain leaves and i'm fairly confident we will, that'll be the downfall of the EU as other countries are increasingly frustrated and as Kurt so rightly said, the EU believes it is untouchable and the waste, especially the 4 days to Strasbourg, what a waste. Bigaresort, we don't care who's...

Kurt | 18 June 2016 - 18:23:07

There is a lot to say about leaving the European Union.
There was always a lot of solidarity of the paying countries to help the poorer in dept countries.
But it can not be stretched unlimited.
A paying small country like the Netherlands have made the pension age from 65 already to 67.
France, Greece, Italy, etc have not done that yet.
Where is the 'united' thinking/ visa versa solida...

Bigaresort | 18 June 2016 - 14:12:12

Better the Uk leaves since they can not stand to be secound in command.

swerv | 18 June 2016 - 12:06:35

Asterix: The UK is the second highest sponsor of the EU, with 28 countries, 11 paying in 17 receiving. We are sick of propping up the EU to the tune of 350 million pounds a week.
It's not " unchartered sea", we have been there before.
The sooner we are able to govern ourselves and not be dictated to by a bunch of law makers the better.
When the UK leaves the EU will crumble.

Asterix | 17 June 2016 - 11:56:43

English have been for so long a pebble in the EU's shoes and it may be better they leave Europe and paddle they own way in uncharted sea.
