Formerly known as “Mom Tri’s Boathouse”, the boutique hotel has been a landmark on Kata Beach for decades. Originally built by architect ML Tridosyudh Devakula, it was recently acquired by Montara Hospitality Holdings Co Ltd, which also owns luxury Trisara Phuket.
Montara vowed to “treasure the past while sailing into the future”, so care has been taken to preserve the spirit of the place.
New additions to the property include a rooftop sunset lounge, a new beach club, a spa (due to open in November) and a large boutique with a gourmet café.
French designer Fredo Taffin has combined “classical architectural symmetry with modern chic to create exclusive beachfront living, dining and relaxation”.
The restaurant, The Boathouse Wine and Grill, has also been totally refurbished. At the new open kitchen with its captain’s table, diners can sit and watch the cooks in action.
A new wine cellar at the restaurant displays the 800 labels that have brought the hotel many wine awards in the past.
The restaurant will serve French and Thai cuisine, and the bar and sunset lounge offers a daily happy hour from 5 to 7pm with 50 per cent off all drinks apart from the wine list.
