But, the problem with such a vast selection is in knowing who to trust – which product or treatment is right for you?
“There are many factors to healthy skin,” explains Wimolpan Cintornvich, M.D., cosmetic and dermatology specialist at Rajdhevee Clinic’s Phuket branch, located on the fourth floor of Central Festival.
“Treatment is only one part. Sure, you can treat skin problems but more importantly you need to identify or diagnose the underlying cause.”
Ms Wimolpan, or Dr Wi, believes in a holistic health approach.
“Acne, for example, is not only caused by hormones, but often caused by lifestyle factors, such as irregular sleeping patterns, stress and diet... So even if you take medication or have laser treatment, but don’t address the cause, then the acne can comeback as soon as you stop treatment. A healthy lifestyle is key,” she notes.
Dr Wi – who earned her M.D. title from the Prince of Songkhla University Haad Yai’s Faculty of Medicine before working three years at Chiang Rai Prachunukro Hospital, then one year as an intern at King Mongkut Hospital in Bangkok prior to completing a two-year cosmetic dermatology training course at the Lions Suphannahong Institue in Bangkok – is certainly the perfect model for beautiful and healthy skin. She looks fresh out of high school, and it’s hard to believe she’s already 35.
Dr Wi has applied laser treatments and skin creams from her own clinic.
So how is Rajdhevee different from other beauty clinics?
Aside from the fact that it’s been around for 37 years and now has 49 branches throughout the kingdom, Dr Wi stresses that all of its treatments are proven academically.
“All of Rajdhevee Clinic’s treatments draw inspiration from medical research and international journals, and are anchored by our key philosophy of medically driven beauty. And before we even launch these treatments they are rigorously tested for at least a year,” she says
“Before serving the patients in their branch, all the clinics’ staff must attend a training course which covers service knowledge, skin knowledge, and communication skills,” she adds
Cutting-edge technology is another advantage. The Phuket clinic is equipped with a wide selection of laser equipment – fractional (Finescan Erbium 1,550 nanometers), Q-switched, ND-Yag and Carbon dioxide, just to name a few.
Aside from treatments for skin problems – acne, freckles, moles, nevus, dermatitis/eczema, skin tumors and cancer, unwanted hair, scars and keloid, among others – the clinic also offers some of the latest rejuvenation therapies and treatments, and is stocked with a wide range of award-winning Thai FDA approved skincare products, facial masks, and considerable options for Botox and fillers (Restylane from Sweden and Juvederm from USA, for example).
But beauty is only skin deep, right? Well, it’s deeper than that.
“It’s important that we look good on the outside, as it makes us feel good and confident inside, which will in turn increase opportunities,” says Dr Wi.
Beyond vanity, she stresses that other more serious skin problems should not be neglected.
“We can perform biopsies and post-cancer follow-ups. With risks like cancer, early detection and prevention are very important,” she stresses.
